AMADC: What attracted you to the marketing profession? What keeps you inspired?
VM: I’ve always been attracted to developing and creating. Working in advertising and strategy, seeing brands and campaigns come to life and how audiences interact with the campaign is exciting. I’m constantly inspired and challenged with all of the ways marketing continues to evolve with technology, and how consumer behavior adapts to today’s world
AMADC: How long have you been a mentor with the Marketing Mentors Network?
VM: The 2018-2019 mentor year was my first year with the program. But won’t be my last 😉
AMADC: What made you decide to join the Marketing Mentors Network?
VM: I have always sought ways to guide others and am a big believer in everyone having a personal brand. I developed a local internship program in my DC office and had the opportunity to mentor future leaders from local universities; George Washington University, University of Maryland, and Georgetown University. So when I joined AMA and found out about their mentor program, it was a wonderful opportunity to expand my network and take mentoring to the next level.
AMADC: What (if anything) have you learned from your time in the program?
VM: As a mentor, the biggest thing I learned from the program was to listen and allow others to form their own path. Through this program, we are given many opportunities to share experiences as well as learn from other professionals. Not only do we support professional growth, but we become a part of each other’s future. And it’s a bright one with AMA!
AMADC: What is your favorite part about being a mentor?
VM: My favorite part of the mentor program was learning from the future generation of marketers. The pairing of mentors and protégés were so spot on and really gave each of us an opportunity to equally learn and grow since we have similar goals and values.
AMADC: What would you say to others considering becoming a mentor?
VM: Absolutely do it! Mentoring is such a rewarding process and you always learn so much from each other. AMADC has a well-organized program with key content and great networking opportunities.
AMADC: What advice do you have for up-and-coming marketers in your field?
VM: Nothing speaks louder than your personal brand and work. Develop your brand and stand out from the crowd. What are your goals and values in your professional and personal journey and let it evolve as your career does. Also, be a lifelong learner. Take the opportunity to learn from all around you. Network, read, and staying active in your community are all great ways to expand your knowledge on a daily basis.
