AMADC’s Mentorship Committee recently concluded its 2011 program:  Marketers Leading Marketers. The program’s mission is to provide entry-level and mid-level career professionals with an opportunity to gain invaluable career guidance and enhance their networking skills through a one-on-one partnership with a devoted professional, industry networking opportunities, and educational seminars focused on improving career development.

The four week program concluded on May 10 and included nearly forty participants. Eighteen protégés were paired with mentors in similar fields of interest within marketing. Mentors selected for the program ranged from Directors to CMOs in research, strategy development, communications, advertising, and media relations from corporate, non-profit, agency, and government environments.

The program kicked off with mentor and protégé training by the Nebo Company, a leadership and executive coaching company. Mentors and protégés were educated on how to make the most of mentoring from the protégé perspective, and how to be an effective mentor. The sessions following included expert speakers in the marketing and consulting field, such as Michael Zeliff, Chief Strategy Officer at JWT Inside, and Neil Roan, CEO of The Roan Group. Incoming AMADC President Michael Gardner also provided strategies, insight, and guidance to the group on professional development, preparation for career changes, developing professional networks, and effectively selling oneself through the right messages and sound bites.

Participants of the program were pleased to have the opportunity to learn from marketers in the field, and had the opportunity to plan for and implement tactics for future growth in the field of marketing.

Following the wrap up of the program, Roz Moore posted this comment to AMADC’s Facebook page, “I’d like to thank AMADC for a fantastic Mentor Program…I am excited about the relationship with my mentor as well as relationships with the organizers, the presenters, and the other participants. I have also received invaluable guidance that will help me to plan my career. Hats off to the volunteers who organized this 4-week event”.
