In the April issue of AMA’s Marketing News, the cover reads “The Seven Big Problems in Marketing.” If you haven’t had the chance to read it, please consider carving out some time to review it. The first sentence reads, “marketing has problems.” Ironically, without these problems we’d all be out of jobs. I think the reason many of us get out of bed each day is that we enjoy facing these challenges and making real impact in our industries to drive significant change.

Speaking of making impact — I’d like to share with you a few quick sound bytes about what our chapter has accomplished in the last month. First, we’re happy to report that we are just a few short weeks away from launching a completely redesigned and updated AMADC.org. Second, I’m really pleased to announce that we formally launched our Past Presidents Circle. This group, comprised of leaders of AMADC from the last 15 years gathered and formed a team with a single purpose: to help inform our chapter’s future plans in the areas of innovation and driving sponsorships and partnerships — based on their collective insights. The Presidents Circle is currently working together to assemble a presentation which they will deliver to our board of directors at our May Board meeting to help inform us as we begin our 2016 – 2017 planning cycle. Lastly, we launched a completely redesigned Special Interest Group programming series focusing on technology. This multi-part series will nail critical topics facing marketers on the tech front and will give great insights on how to address them effectively.

Looking ahead, in the upcoming weeks we will be placing our focus on two important areas. First, we will be finalizing plans for our biggest event of the year, now scheduled for early June. This is an event you will not want to miss — and we will be sharing those details with you, shortly. Secondly, our incoming President, Regan Lamb and the 2016 – 2017 Board is moving into planning mode for the upcoming fiscal year which will begin on July 1. Regan will continue to implement the strategy set this year, and drive progress forward. I will remain in an active role in the chapter and will act as an advisor to both Regan and Brent Hayhurst, our incoming President-Elect. The goal is to ensure a seamless transition and based on the work done so far, it’s looking very positive.

With that I hope you get a chance to take a few minutes to enjoy a beautiful spring in Washington, and join us for our upcoming programs happening later this month. I’ll look forward to seeing you there! While marketing has its problems, it’s great to be the in an industry that enjoys facing them and taking them head on!

Happy Marketing!
