How long have you been a member of AMADC? 
This is my first year, joined in the summer

Tell us about your professional background. 
I majored in Marketing at Hampton University. After graduating, I decided to pursue a career in sports. For over 10 years I have worked in college athletics marketing, focusing on sales and marketing strategies to accomplish branding, revenue generation and fan development goals.

What attracted you to the marketing profession? What keeps you inspired?
I chose marketing as a career path because it is a results-driven industry that still allows me to be creative. I believe that marketing is everything human and good marketing has potential to positively impact our world.

What advice do you have for up-and-coming marketers in your field?
My advice is to add as many marketing-related tools to your toolbox as possible but try to really master 1-2 of those skills that will always be needed. Also, this generation of marketers has access to so much knowledge. Watch those YouTube tutorials, DM that marketing pro you admire on Twitter.

How do you see the role of the marketing, communications and advertising industry in supporting diversity, equity and inclusion to build a more inclusive culture?
The marketing industry has a huge opportunity and honestly, a responsibility, to help build a more inclusive society. We are storytellers. So it is important that we are telling stories that represent the diversity in our world. Providing more minority marketing professionals opportunities gives those stories a chance to not only be told but more importantly, be told in an authentic way.

If you could have done anything differently, what would it have been? In other words, what would your older self say to your younger self?
It has been a blessing for me to progress in my career the way I have. But I do wish I would have put more effort into pursuing internships and volunteer opportunities in marketing/sports marketing earlier in college. I feel like when I graduated I was behind where I wanted to be so I had to work really hard to catch up.

On a personal note...
I love sports (obviously), music, and fitness, I just got a Peloton, but family is really important to me. My mom is my everything and my brother’s kids are my best friends. With a career in sports,  I’ve worked hundreds of events, most of them beautifully chaotic. But the most unique and most rewarding event to manage was the 90th birthday Zoom for my grandmother this past September. There were technology difficulties, no one followed the program, no one listened to me but my grandma loved every moment of it.
