Approximately 40 of the AMA’s Mid-Atlantic’s Chapter Executives gathered in Washington, D.C., February 5-6 at the Carlyle Suites hotel to collaborate and connect with ideas on everything from membership to programming and operations.
The chapters represented beyond D.C. included Philadelphia, Baltimore, Central, VA, Triangle, Richmond, Hampton Roads, and Raleigh-Durham. Jessica Kennedy, Professional Chapters Council members and Jennifer Billings from International Headquarters provided key insight from AMA. AMADC’s board was well represented with President Christie Susko, President-elect Mike Gardner, Treasurer Karen Alston, Membership Vice President Angela Brown and Marketing Communications Vice President Patty Briotta in attendance. Gardner was the key architect behind the weekend’s activities.
The retreat kicked off with a nighttime bus tour of our nation’s capital provided by The Capitol Communicator and Airport Transportation, Inc. The event was a family affair, thanks in no small part to the gourmet feast prepared by Gardner’s wife, Becky. Ripe.com also helped keep the evening festive with their spirited support.
On Saturday morning, the marketing leaders gathered bright and early for a full day of networking and creative discussions. The dynamic highlights of the meeting were captured in a swirl of Tweets and twitpics. Ultimately, the group identified several areas where resources and programming efforts could be leveraged and identified some innovative approaches to driving membership, participation and chapter development. Many of these will continue to be shared through the group’s LinkedIn connection. Becky captured the most valuable spouse award by baking customized AMA cookies for the crowd.
With this enthusiastic and vibrant group, 2011 promises to be filled with many great accomplishments across the region.
