Note From the Board
This is one of our favorite times of year at AMADC.  Our Spring Membership Drive just launched on April 4, so if you’re an area marketer and have attended our events, or thought about joining the leading marketing association driving innovation, professional development and career advancement in the DC metropolitan area, now is the time.

You will find yourself in great company among more than 800 members representing a variety of industries ranging from corporate, media, government, advertising, association and non-profit.  AMADC is the fourth largest chapter of the global umbrella organization, the American Marketing Association (AMA) headquartered in Chicago.  Join by May 31 and receive up to $230 in savings.  Click here for details.

A new edition to our membership family is the group membership. The AMA Group Membership program is available to professional marketers and academics in the same organization or parent company regardless of geographic location.  Group is defined as four or more people receiving a paycheck from the same employer.  Join the Corporate Executive Board, Verizon Wireless, Ingeniz and our newest addition – FineLine Solutions.  Welcome to our marketing family!

As we surpass 800 members, we are delighted to report that our membership base is growing as fast as the daffodils and tulips that signal spring is in the air.

Chapter Highlights

The AMADC is proud to deliver integrated, strategic and tactical marketing education on current trends and issues that apply to virtually any business or organization.  Our monthly webinars and programming provide fresh insights, best practices and case studies delivered by recognized marketing leaders from a variety of companies.

How to Series – Work a Crowd

On March 10, Ardell Fleeson, Commercial Real Estate Broker for CB Richard Ellis (CBRE), deftly demonstrated the wide acclaim she has received for her networking expertise.  She proved she knows how to work a crowd as she captivated a rapt audience of dozens of marketing professionals from around DC with her keen insight on networking.

Despite a steady rain, spirits were lively and engaged at the office of DC Economic Partnership as Ardell unlocked the secrets of maximizing your networking efforts.

Ardell covered everything from how to master a handshake, negotiating the dynamics of conversation clusters, strategy to meet your target at networking events, how to follow up and throwing out your old elevator speech for today’s fast-moving world.

At the end, Ardell left the crowd with a great sense of how to put their best foot forward in speaking for themselves.

Marketing Mix and Mingle

Each month AMADC hosts a variety of networking opportunities around the DC area, from major gala events to more intimate gatherings at local hot spots. In March, marketing professionals flocked to Hudson Restaurant in DuPont Circle, D.C., and Jaleo Tapas Bar in Bethesda, MD., for happy hour cocktails and tasty tid-bits while exchanging business cards and career advice.

Understanding the Mindset of Consumers in the Washington, DC Market

Ever wonder what makes Washington, DC area residents tick? Do they consider themselves to be optimistic? Are they staying up-to-date on the latest news? Are they following the latest fashion trends?

Steve Markenson, President WB&A Market Research, shared insightful findings from the firm’s new psychographic study with local marketers at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School on March 16. The lunch-hour discussion explored the similarities and differences between DC area consumers and Baltimore area consumers in a range of areas, including: ownership and use of technology, work ethic, health, self-image, lifestyle and purchasing habits.

Sold Out Event! How To: Drive Business Through Branding

AMADC professionals gathered to hear about driving business through branding on March 24. Featured speakers were Susan Waldman, Pete Beebe, and Jeff Caporizzo, from ZilYen, a DC based branding and marketing company.
How To: Drive Business Through Branding The speakers discussed how to build a brand and in turn build business through four key areas. First establish your brand identity and find the gaps between who you are and who customers think you are. Next, integrate your brand into the planning process, and inspire your audience. Several case studies were presented including non-profit examples. A key takeaway: brands are built on who they are, not what they do. To help identify who you are, explore why the organization was created.
Whether you are new to AMADC or are a seasoned professional there is something for everyone at the How To events. In addition to great speakers and hot topics, the monthly seminars offer networking opportunities at each table. Make sure to mark your calendar for the next How To event.

If you weren't able to attend all these great networking and programming events, it's not too late to join us next month. Visit www.amadc.org, or contact the AMADC at 703-683-4883 or info@amadc.org to learn more.
