About the Event
Ever wonder how some of the most successful people you know take time out of their busy schedules to serve on a nonprofit board (or two or three) –or why they generously share their business expertise for nonprofit governance and performance improvement. --And what about where they chose to serve and what kind of responsibilities they embrace? There must be more to it than simply giving back to the community.
Perhaps you already know, from personal experience, the true value of serving as a nonprofit board leader, but are interested in discussing best practices and learning about the positive outcomes and interesting challenges of others who have taken on this very important role.
Join us for a lively conversation as our distinguished panel of speakers share valuable advice and insights from their own experience and discuss the many ways that you can benefit from board service, both personally and professionally.
We’ll explore what board service is all about, how to be an exceptional leader in governing and supporting an organization that you are committed to --and how to gain the unexpected benefits and positive impact on your career and network of influence.
Here’s some of what you’ll learn:
- How to get started exploring board opportunities. What’s the path from where you are now…to serving on a board that best meets your needs (and those of the organization)?
- How to evaluate a board opportunity when you’re asked…and how to seek a board position when you haven’t been asked?
- What are the different types of boards and the expectations that go along with accepting the position? How about legal accountability and board ethics?
- Once you’re on a board, how do you maximize your involvement to support an organization you believe in and advance your career at the same time?
- What if you’re passionate about a cause, but not in a position to make a large financial commitment?
- What about board “politics”—what do you look for and how do you navigate it?
- If you’re currently serving on a board, how can you enhance the experience…and how do you know when it’s time to make a change?
Network with peers. Strengthen connections. Support an organization that supports your passion.
This event is open to marketing executives with director-level and above titles, staff management and 15+ years of industry experience.
